Brad Stiefvater Completed and Flew the First Van's RV-12

Brad Steifvater of Salem, South Dakota became the first customer for Van's Aircraft to complete and fly a Van's RV-12 kit. Brad Steifvater first flew it on September 19, 2009 in Madison, South Dakota.

Van's RV-12 is a Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) and is a two-seat all metal and runs on Rotax 912 engine.

FAA Requires Inspections For Some Teledyne Continental Motors

The FAA issued on Tuesday airworthiness directive that affects certain Teledyne Continental Motors reciprocating engines with TCM EQ3 cylinders installed. The Ad applies to engines in the O-470, IO-470, TSIO-479, IO-520, TSIO-550, and IOF-550 series. The AD requires initial and repetitive visual inspections of TCM EQ3 cylinders for cracks and must be indentified and intially inspected within 20 flight hours after October 7, 2009. Cracks in cylinder head can cause engine failures or fire in the engine compartment.

Paul Rinaldi will be the next President of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA). Rinaldi got 5,023 votes. He will take over Patrick Forrey on October 19, 2009.
